Top 5 Ways to Celebrate 420 from Home

In recent years, many cannabis enthusiasts had been looking forward to the month of April 2020 as an opportunity to have a whole month of 420.

Of course, no one was expecting a global pandemic to put a damper on planned 420 celebrations across the world.

Just because we can’t have large in-person gatherings, however, doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate our country’s second year of legalization – there are plenty of ways to celebrate 420 at home, and here are 5 of our favourites.

1) Stock Up

Okay, if you’re not already stocked up on bud (or softgels, vapes, etc.), it might be a bit late to order cannabis online for delivery to your home.

Fortunately, many retail stores across the country are offering “click & collect” where you can order online and pick up at the store for a contact-free shopping method. In some provinces, such as Ontario, the provincial government has even gone so far as to temporarily allow private retailers to deliver direct-to-consumers – a great additional convenience for consumers in the province.

2) Watch a Stoner Movie

Chances are, if you’re reading this article, you’ve already seen most of the classics.

That said, we asked around the office (well, via Skype of course) and here are some of our staff’s submissions for their favourite stoner movie of all time:

  • Half Baked
  • Pineapple Express
  • Cheech and Chong’s Up in Smoke
  • How High
  • Dazed and Confused
  • Dude, Where's My Car?
  • Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle
  • Friday
  • Smiley Face
  • Ted
  • 3) Join a Virtual 420 Celebration

Yep, this is a real thing!

Thanks to technology, you can connect with thousands of your fellow cannabis enthusiasts – and watch top-tier musical talent – from the comfort of your couch.

Here are our top 3 virtual 420 celebrations:

    1. Weedmaps Presents: Higher Together – a livestream featuring music from Wiz Khalifa, stand-up comedy, special guest interviews and smoke sessions.
    2. Westwood Recordings x Shambhala Music Festival x Your EDM Present: A 420 LiveStream – a virtual concert featuring electronic music from a variety of artists including The Funk Hunters and Stickybuds.
    3. Kiaro’s Virtual Vibe – our friends at Kiaro are putting on this livestream event that will feature virtual retail store tours, a cooking demo and more.

    4) Host Your Own Virtual Sesh

Missing your buds? You’re not alone.

The idea of smoking a joint with your friends through a screen might seem strange at first, but this writer has found that any technical issues or glitches quickly give way to boisterous laughter. There are plenty of applications you can use – FaceTime (for iPhones), Skype and Zoom are some of the more popular options.

So give it a try. Just remember that you can’t actually pass joints through a phone screen… yet.

    5) Make Edibles

What better way to celebrate 420 than with homemade edibles?

If this is your first time cooking with cannabis, we recommend taking a moment to learn about the basics of decarboxylation.

Next, start with a simple cannabutter recipe. From there, you can infuse anything you like – from savoury dishes to drinks to baked goods. Just remember to start low and go slow, because no one wants to spend 420 greening out in their room.

No matter how you choose to celebrate April 20 this year, we hope you have fun and stay safe!
