Overview of Cannabis Accessories

Overview of Cannabis Accessories

Gone are the days of makeshift, improvised, and home-made cannabis accessories – and for the most part, that’s a good thing. Nowadays, there are so many cannabis accessories available that you’re bound to be overwhelmed by the selection. To help you decipher which you’ll need depending on your preferred consumption method and level of experience, we’ve prepared an overview of some of the most popular cannabis accessories to keep an eye out for.

Cannabis Vaporizers

For those who decide to inhale cannabis, many enjoy the benefit of using a cannabis vaporizer. On top of the fact that it’s less harmful compared to smoking (which involves combustion), it’s discreet and relatively odorless. Plus, cannabis vapes come in all shapes and sizes, and can have many features.

When purchasing a vape, however, you should always do your research before committing. There are many different ones out there, and the one for you will depend on what you’re looking for (cartridge size, conduction vs. convection, portable vs. desktop, vape pen using cannabis oil vs. dried cannabis vaporizer etc.) There are lots of options out there, so it’s safe to say that vapes will rise in popularity as health-conscious consumers look for alternatives to smoking.

cannabis vapes are popular accessories for consumption

Cannabis smoking accessories

If smoking is your preferred consumption method, then in the same vein as vapes, you’ll want to invest in the proper accessories to ensure your cannabis smoking experience is as enjoyable as possible. This means looking into a bong, a pipe, or some good rolling papers. Again, it’s all about personal preference.

For those going the rolling paper route, there are options for different materials such as rice paper or unbleached raw organic paper. You’ll also want to consider filter tips – whether you purchase them or make them yourself. This can be as simple as a thin strip of cardstock rolled into a spiral and placed at one end of the joint. Rolling papers come in many sizes, so depending how large you like your joints, this will determine the filter size required.

It’s important to keep any cannabis smoking accessory, such as a bong or pipe, in mint condition by cleaning it regularly. Flushing it with water or a cleaning solution from time to time will ensure that the plant matter buildup doesn’t get out of hand. If there are parts of the bong or pipe where the buildup or resin is especially stubborn, consider investing in a pipe brush or a bong scrubber. Alternatively you can use a rough material, such as sand or small rocks, along with isopropyl.

Grinders

cannabis accessories: grinders

If you’re a fan of dried bud, invest in a quality grinder. Cannabis grinders come in a variety of materials, including metal, plastic, and wood (to name a few). They begin with two-piece grinders (usually a good choice for beginners and at the most reasonable price point) all the way to five-piece grinders (more complex and include a catcher for your kief).

If the more traditional grinder doesn’t quite tickle your fancy, there are other options available. Electrical grinders exist, and so do card grinders (ever seen those thin grinders that look a little like cheese graters?). It all comes down to the features and level of portability you desire.

Dab rigs

For more experienced consumers, and for those who vaporize concentrates (also known as “dabbing”), it may be worth investing in a dab rig. The types of extracts used to dab include rosin, hash, and shatter, among others.

A dab rig is an apparatus made up of a glass body (similar to a bong) and a nail made of titanium, glass, or quartz that holds the dab concentrate. A butane torch is used to heat the nail, and the concentrate is then “dabbed” onto the surface of the nail and inhaled through the mouthpiece.

Merchandise

Not exactly something you’ll use to consume cannabis per se, but it’s relevant to note all the merchandise out there available to consumers. For the first time in Canada’s history, recreational cannabis prohibition has ended, which means you can be openly curious and proud of cannabis consumption (or at the very least, a doob tube may be an effective ice breaker at parties!).

We’re in a new era when it comes to cannabis accessories. Whatever your preference in terms of consumption, there’s something out there for you. Accessories are becoming more and more nuanced and appeal to previously underserved market segments. Cannabis accessories for women, for example, are becoming increasingly popular.

Remember to keep your accessories in good condition. That means cleaning them regularly, to prevent the accumulation of residual plant matter. Always store your cannabis accessories in a safe place, where those who aren’t meant to use them can’t access them. Remember to “start low and go slow.”
